In the last few weeks I’ve sat in front of the television watching in horror as events unfolded in the Japanese earthquake and Libya. At one point, I realised that I had inadvertently cradled my cheek with my hand in that age-old gesture of shock, as tears ran down my cheeks. I found the images very stressful.
